Dimension 8300: 20-pin or 24-pin?

I'm thinking of upgrading the PSU and changing the PC Case.

Just want to make sure I get the right PSU that will work with the DELL motherboard.

So, is it 20-pin or 24-pin?

wow, I wasn't aware that DELL made it so hard for people to upgrade the system.

I guess this project is off then. Thanks a lot, shesagordie.

This will save my $100. :smileyvery-happy:

20pin, standard ATX power supply, without the on/off switch. Same as the unit shown here

Note, the Dell cases and motherboards have propietary features.

What do you mean by propietary features?

As both Dell motherboards and cases have proprietary features. You may have a problem installing the motherboard into a ATX case.
The rear IO panel may not line up correctly, so you could have to modify that.  Non Dell cases and motherboards don't have the same front wiring connnectors that Dell uses, you'll have to figure out how to rewire the front power button, reset, and USB ports.
You may need a new CPU fan and heatsink, because Dell's are proprietary units.
Plus, using a non Dell case or motherboard will most certainly void the system's warranty.

Browse the Dimension - Upgrade Hardware, for more information about this subject.

I have a feeling that Dell, would prefer you to buy a new computer, instead of carrying out a major upgrade.

does this mean I goofed buying a Seasonic S12 500w Ps to upgrade my stock 8300? Wanted to upgrade GFX 5200 to Radeon 9800XT. To make this ps work I must change pin wiring in sockets?

You don't need a PSU upgrade for that card.
